Matthew Carey's Study Desk

Your course data stays yours

Privacy Policy

Matthew Carey's Study Desk ("Study Desk") is a local-first educational workspace operated by sole proprietor Matthew Carey. This policy explains the limited information used to provide course organization and optional SMS reminders.

Effective August 25, 2026

Information Study Desk uses

Study Desk may process course schedules, assignment and class metadata, notes, transcripts, notification preferences, and the mobile number a user provides. The application also records when a user affirmatively consents to SMS reminders and when that consent is withdrawn.

How information is used

This information is used only to provide requested educational features, including organizing course material, generating notes, calculating reminder times, and delivering reminders selected by the user.

SMS privacy commitment. Mobile numbers, SMS opt-in data, and messaging consent are not sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. They are used only to operate the Study Desk reminder program.

Service providers

When SMS reminders are enabled, Study Desk sends the destination number and message content to Twilio solely to deliver the requested text. Service providers may process information only to perform their operational services and not for their own advertising.

Storage and retention

The current Study Desk application stores course data, preferences, and consent records locally on the user’s device. Twilio credentials are encrypted using the user’s Windows account. Reminder delivery records are retained locally to prevent duplicate messages and enforce safety limits. Users can disable SMS at any time and remove locally stored application data.

SMS disclosures and choices

Questions and requests

For help with the SMS program, reply HELP to a Study Desk message. Privacy and deletion controls are also available from Study Desk settings.

Policy changes

Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date on this page. If an SMS consent disclosure materially changes, Study Desk will request consent again before resuming recurring messages.
